The annual review process

Your Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan is reviewed every year and you'll be asked for your views.

Step 1

At the start of each term, your school is told by the local authority (the council) which EHC Plans need to be reviewed that term.

Step 2

Your school will invite these people to your annual review meeting:

  • You
  • Your parents or carers
  • Anyone who's worked with you or provided advice over the year

Two weeks before the meeting, paperwork is sent to everyone who's attending. The paperwork includes reports on how you've been getting on, and your views.

Step 3

At the annual review meeting, the discussion will be about your progress on meeting your outcomes written in Section E of your EHC plan.

Your aspirations, also known as your future goals, will also be discussed. This discussion will also include the steps you're taking to become independent, and any concerns and worries you might have.

Step 4

Two weeks after the annual review meeting, your school or college must send an annual review report and paperwork to the council. The report and paperwork will cover what was discussed at the meeting.

Step 5

Four weeks after the annual review meeting, the council will write to you and let you know if your EHC Plan will be:

  1. Kept the same
  2. Amended (changed)
  3. Ceased (stopped)
